Morris Blake "Knight"
Quote: “The newly Awakened are a valuable resource, particularly those with the strength of will and clarity of mind to pierce both the Lie and the Labyrinth.”
Description: A plump, jovial looking man in his early thirties, Morris has already started to bald significantly. He dresses in plain black suits that are never quite formal enough for formal occasions, nor informal enough for people to be relaxed around him. Style is an afterthought for him, and he wears suits because its easy to have an entire wardrobe of the same clothing.
His nimbus manifests as the sound of a busy office, the rustle of papers and chatter of unintelligible bureaucracy.
Dedicated Magical Tool: A golden masonic ring.

Background: Morris Blake joined the Masonic Order in his late teens. The son of a factory overseer, he had an understanding of such hierarchical structures as well as the importance of artifice. He was pulled to the more mystic elements of the Masons however and soon found himself drawn ever deeper by the mysteries that he was uncovering. Finally, during the ceremony inducting him as a Master Mason he awoke in an extended mystery play where the assembled spirits of his mystic philosophy held court and decided upon his promotion. He signed his name on the stone book they presented and Awakened a changed man, with a deeper respect for the hierarchies inherent in all things.
He was taken in by the 47th Degree the next night when he managed to follow the threads of their resonant castings to their sanctum, but not before he received a message carried by a spirit that instructed him to meet another like him in downtown Detroit that afternoon. He went and met Maya of the Harmony Club who introduced him to the precepts of the Silver Ladder.
Maya claimed that the Guardians of the Veil were a dangerous tyranny that subverted the natural path to greatness of both Awakened and Sleepers, planting the seed of doubt in Morris’ mind. The two continued to converse by spirit envoy even after his official induction into the Guardians of the Veil, and he has come to act as a spy for the Silver Ladder within the Concilium. Of course, should he be discovered his life will most likely be forfeit, but the Ladder sees him as a disposable and valuable asset, for now.
Storytelling Hints: Morris is playing a dangerous game, without the skill to keep it up. If he’s discovered by the Guardians, they will certainly kill him, and if he tries to defect to the Ladder, it’s likely that they won’t want to make enemies by sheltering him. Even should he try to stop working for the Ladder, he knows they would likely blackmail him into continuing at risk of exposing his identity. This makes him understandably nervous, and he’s begun to look for outside help that he could call on if the situation spiraled out of hand. Unfortunately for him, he’s too isolated within the Concilium to find such friends currently.
The Temple Inquisitor, with his mastery of the Mind Arcana is well aware of his predicament, and has begun to make subtle overtures to the acolyte. If Morris’ situation collapses, it’s likely that the Temple Inquisitor would offer his help and the power of the Abyss on the left-hand path. Depending on the circumstances, Morris might be forced to agree if he hopes to survive.
