Jyotishi Anand "Sublime"
Quote: “The emanations? Oh yes. They’re particularly strong… here. No, not there, idiot! Here.”
Description: Tall, straight-backed and noble of feature, Anand looks upon friend and enemy alike with an enigmatic smile. Now in his early 60s, he is clean-shaven and always immaculately groomed, preferring to wear tailored suits and ties, sometimes in an Indian style. Anand’s good looks and sense of authority allow him to get away with lapses of personal etiquette that would get other men beaten up.
Anand’s nimbus is a gentle corona of multicolored light that temporarily obscures the details of his face and makes the colors and shapes around him seem to waver and blur into one another for a second, before snapping back into sharp focus.

The Keeper of the Covenant binds her destiny to the Shadow Realm; she gains a bonus to all Spirit Arcanum spells – whether improvised or rote – equal to either her dots in the Fate Arcanum or half her Gnosis, rounding down, whichever is less.
Additionally, the Elder may see, hear and speak with spirits in Twilight, at will, as per the “Spirit Tongue” spell.
2nd Attainment – Emissary of the Pact*
Prerequisites: Gnosis 5, Fate 3, Spirit 3
The Keeper of the Covenant draws ever closer to oneness with Shadow. The mage can now create a locus, producing points of “neutral” Essence per day (usable by any kind of spirit) up to his dots in Spirit, as an extended Presence + Persuasion + Fate roll, requiring successes equal to the Essence to be produced each day. This roll is subject to the penalty for local Gauntlet strength. The locus may not be used by a spirit without the willworker’s consent, regardless of whether or not he is present. If the mage allows a spirit access to this locus, it must consent to perform a service for him in exchange, as per the “Control Spirit” spell, with successes equal to the points of Essence consumed. If the mage has Spirit 4, this service’s Duration may benefit from advanced prolongation. The Keeper may produce only such a locus per day; creating a new locus causes the old one to wither.
Also, the Elder may perceive and communicate with spirits as per the “Peer Across the Gauntlet” spell, at will.
Background: Jyotishi Anand’s father was a doctor, one of the wave of medical professionals who moved to America from India in the 1950s and ‘60s. Jyotishi was a teenager when Detroit began to disintegrate, and threw himself into the unrest, much to his dad’s disapproval.
As the 60s wore on and Detroit swung in a psychedelic direction, Jyotishi became, like many of his fellow hipsters, mixed up with a number of gurus and esoteric teachers, more because it was where the beautiful people were than because he had any interest in watered-down Hinduism. In the end, transcendental meditation only took him so far. His Awakening came at a Strawberry Alarm Clock gig. Having consumed a prodigious quantity of acid, he went on a trip straight to the Watchtower of the Stone Book. He signed his name on a guest list for a party he could never leave.
Of course, this didn’t last. His early displays of wild vulgar magic attracted the attention of local Guardians who enforced on him the importance of the Veil. In grand tradition, he worked his way through the Masonic Order and discovered the cabal within, becoming a fully-fledged Guardian of the Veil.
Storytelling Hints: Although genial, Anand is sometimes breathtakingly rude. His personal magnetism (and a dash of magic) helps him to get away with it. He often says exactly what he thinks of people to their faces, although he knows when to be gentle. He’s very perceptive. His criticism is often right on the mark.
Anand dislikes Chambers, the Temple Inquisitor, but has nothing to base any accusations on. Much of his skill with Mind comes from Chamber’s teaching, but was also sought to protect himself from that same mage, who he distrusts on a visceral level.
